Survival Phase

So I had mentor training today and I learned that there are different phases in teaching. I am in the survival phase. It was good to have my feelings validated. While I do love my job, I don’t feel like a teacher because I don’t know enough about my kids or about what I am doing. I figured that part on my own yesterday. Today I found out that’s normal. That’s nice. What’s crazy is knowing that I am not really going to get the hang of things until next year, or the year after. I feel like I’ll be in the survival phase forever.

It’s fine. We’re fine. Everything’s fine.

I need to set goals for myself:

1) Survival

2) Don’t quit

3) Get baseline data on all of my kids. I’m at 2/22 so far. Good thing I brought work home with me.
