excitement!!!

Okay. So. I went into the classroom where I will be student teaching in the Fall. I met the teacher, and she is pretty much amazing. There are 6 paparofessionals in the classroom in addition to the teacher. There are 7 students. What does that tell you?

But that is not discouraging at all. They range from K-2, and one 4th grader. Some of the students are biters, some are self abusing, some have psychological issues… Mosters and fires coming after, very interesting. One talks like she is a cartoon character! One is still in diapers…

There is a swing in the room!!!!! They have a little trampoline, which is fun! Apparently they are building a padded section for students to go if they are particularly violent, which is also going to be used as a cool down center.

Brooke wants me to work on art projects with the students :) She is already making me feel included. She asked if I wanted to work there this summer, but I am taking classes and I have a job. She asked where I wanted to live/teach after school, and she said thatif I wanted to stay in the area of Midland she may be able to help me out (!!!!!!). She talked to me a bit about how to get my Autism endorsement, which would also be awesome- but the thought of more school right now makes my head hurt.

If you haven’t been able to tell already, I am so incredibly excited! They are getting a new curriculum next year, that will be interesting to see! Especially since riight now their curriculum is mainly functional, so it seems, and not so focused on academics.

So excited :)
